The Nigerian Army has uncovered 11 illegal oil bunkering sites across four states—Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom—during a series of military operations aimed at combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
The operation, led by troops under Operation Delta Safe, uncovered active bunkering sites where suspects engaged in illegal refining activities. Security operatives seized crude oil, refining equipment, and other materials used in these illegal operations.
Illegal bunkering does more than harm Nigeria’s economy. It also has far-reaching effects on nearby communities, including land pollution, environmental degradation, and declining property values. These effects discourage real estate investment and create unsafe conditions for residents.
Real estate stakeholders are calling for stronger security collaborations to protect land and infrastructure. They argue that without addressing environmental threats like oil theft, property development in these regions will continue to suffer setbacks.
As the government intensifies its crackdown on oil crimes, developers and investors hope for cleaner, safer communities where growth and property value can thrive.
