A tragic story has emerged from Lagos State, where the family of a young banker is grieving the loss of their son, 26-year-old Osemudiamen Idemudia. He was found dead in a morgue in Yaba ten days after he was declared missing.
Osemudiamen, who worked in the Point-of-Sale department of a commercial bank in the Ikota area of Lagos, was last seen on May 9 in the CMS area of Lagos Island. According to a family member, he had gone to meet a senior colleague for a work-related appointment, which was later canceled. After parting ways with a coworker around 6 p.m., he never made it back to his residence in Igando.
For days, his family launched a desperate search—visiting police stations, hospitals, and mortuaries across the state. The worst was confirmed on May 19 when they found his lifeless body in a Yaba morgue.
According to a relative named Segun, the body had severe machete cuts to the head, face, and legs, suggesting he may have been brutally attacked. The staff at the morgue claimed police officers had deposited the body earlier, but they were unable to identify the officers or the exact circumstances that led to Osemudiamen’s death.
The family has since buried him on May 20 and is calling on the authorities to investigate the case thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
So far, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Osemudiamen’s tragic death has raised serious questions about safety in public places like CMS and the growing number of unexplained murders across the city. Many residents have expressed fears over the alarming rate of violence and lack of effective policing in such areas.
