The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is strengthening Nigeria’s drive for affordable housing through global collaboration. In a recent development, Minister Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa met with a delegation from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) in Abuja to explore strategic partnerships for infrastructure and sustainable urban development.
The Kuwait Fund, known for providing technical and financial assistance to developing countries, is looking to partner with Nigeria in a bold move to tackle the country’s housing deficit by focusing on affordable housing in Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, the collaboration will support programs under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly in building local capacity and infrastructure.
The Ministry plans to establish hubs in each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Each hub will cover 200–300 hectares and will be fully serviced with roads, power, water, and drainage systems.
The hubs will house factories producing essential building materials such as roofing sheets, windows, doors, tiles, and printing materials — a major step towards reducing import costs and making housing more affordable.
Dangiwa noted that four investors have already submitted proposals and are working with the Ministry on the hubs’ development.
This potential partnership represents a significant step forward for Nigeria’s housing sector, with the promise of more accessible housing and stronger local industry.
