Imo State Salary Increase: Doctors to Earn ₦533,000, Minimum Wage Set at ₦104,000

The Imo State salary increase is set to reshape the state’s workforce and economy, with Governor Hope Uzodimma approving a revised salary structure. Under the new arrangement, doctors in the civil service will earn ₦533,000 monthly, while other civil servants will now enjoy a minimum wage of ₦104,000. This bold adjustment takes effect from August 2025 and positions Imo as one of Nigeria’s highest-paying states.

During a meeting with the labour force at the Government House in Owerri, Uzodimma attributed the Imo State salary increase to improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which surged from ₦400 million to over ₦3 billion monthly, alongside higher federal allocations. According to him, worker welfare is central to boosting productivity, household income, and the state’s local economy, echoing the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment guidelines on fair wages.

The governor further confirmed that pension payments worth ₦16 billion will resume from August 27. His administration also introduced reforms in the health sector, including an insurance scheme and upgrades to facilities. He emphasized that beyond salaries, his government is investing in infrastructure and business development, aligning with national economic reforms (Premium Times).

Labour Reactions to the Imo State Salary Increase

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress welcomed the development, describing it as a significant win for workers. The NLC state chairman said the governor’s move ensures that Imo remains a leader in worker welfare.
