The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Abeokuta–Papalanto Road rehabilitation, promising completion of the long-awaited project to world-class standards. Governor Dapo Abiodun announced in an official X update on Saturday that work was progressing steadily across Papalanto, Ifo, and Sango, adding that motorists would soon enjoy a safer and smoother journey.
“Our administration remains resolute in its commitment to providing quality infrastructure that enhances economic growth, facilitates ease of movement, and improves the daily lives of our people,” the governor stated.
This project is a major milestone in Ogun State’s infrastructure development. The completed section will reduce travel time between Abeokuta and Papalanto, ease logistics for businesses, and open new opportunities for residents.
For years, the Lagos–Sango–Ota–Abeokuta Expressway has been a source of concern for motorists and commuters. The 70-kilometre federal highway, which spans both Lagos and Ogun states, had suffered neglect for over 17 years, leading to frequent accidents and significant economic losses.
Relief finally came when Governor Abiodun, in collaboration with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, secured federal approval for Ogun and Lagos to take over construction of the road. “This project, though a federal road, was formally handed over to us after several years of failed interventions, and we took it upon ourselves to ensure it is fixed once and for all,” Abiodun said.
According to the governor, the completion of the Abeokuta–Papalanto Road rehabilitation will not only transform daily commuting but also strengthen Ogun State’s economic competitiveness. For residents, traders, and logistics operators, the road’s improvement will mark the beginning of stress-free travel and renewed investor confidence.
