The Abuja–Lagos Superhighway project is finally set to begin after years of anticipation. According to Dr. Kenny Martins, Chairman of AEC Unity Network Limited, groundbreaking for the 470 km highway will happen before the end of 2025 once the Federal Executive Council (FEC) grants approval.
Cost and Timeline of the Abuja–Lagos Superhighway
Martins revealed that the Abuja–Lagos Superhighway is expected to cost $4 billion, but adjustments during execution may push the figure closer to $5 billion. Once construction begins, the project is scheduled for completion within four years. Upon completion, it will reduce travel time between Lagos and Abuja from over 10 hours to just 4 hours, making it one of the most transformative road projects in Nigeria’s history.
Government Support for the Superhighway
Martins emphasized that the project has the backing of key government officials, including the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC). He also commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructure as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic growth.

Impact on Real Estate and Development
The Abuja–Lagos Superhighway is expected to create massive opportunities for real estate development, logistics, and tourism. With faster road travel, areas along the highway corridor could see a surge in demand for housing estates, hospitality facilities, and industrial hubs.
Property developers in both Lagos and Abuja are already preparing for the impact. For instance, see our Abuja Real Estate Overview and explore insights from Nigeria’s real estate market to understand how infrastructure drives property value.
