Dangote Cement Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Nigeria’s roads by intensifying training and retraining programmes for its fleet drivers nationwide.
At the 2025 Annual Driver’s Retreat, themed “Drive Safely, Arrive Safely”, held at the Ibese Plant in Ogun State, Group Managing Director, Mr. Arvind Pathak, announced that more than 200 drivers participated in the refresher sessions. The programme focused on road discipline, defensive driving techniques, and compliance with safety regulations.
Pathak stressed that Dangote Cement’s efforts go beyond corporate responsibility—they are about protecting lives, reducing accidents, and preventing property damage on Nigerian highways. He noted that safer driving not only preserves lives but also prevents avoidable losses to homes, vehicles, and businesses impacted by road crashes.
The company is working closely with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other regulatory agencies to ensure that safety practices meet the highest standards. These agencies also take part in monitoring and evaluation, reinforcing accountability.
According to Pathak, every Dangote Cement driver undergoes a rigorous recruitment and screening process before employment. This includes:
- Valid Class G driver’s license
- Background verification of the driver and guarantors
- Comprehensive medical checks, including eye tests, blood pressure, BMI, and random blood sugar
- Drug and alcohol screening
By setting these high standards, Dangote Cement ensures that its drivers are not just qualified but also healthy and fit to operate safely on Nigeria’s busy roads.
Pathak further explained that Dangote works hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies to investigate incidents transparently and implement recommendations that strengthen public safety.
Ultimately, the company’s proactive measures will help reduce road crashes, protect commuters, and prevent loss of property. For communities, property owners, and businesses alike, safer roads mean fewer risks and greater peace of mind.
