The Gateway International Airport in Ogun State has achieved a historic milestone after being officially granted an Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP) by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). This certification officially allows the airport to begin commercial air transport services, positioning Ogun State as a new hub for aviation and investment in Nigeria.
Governor Dapo Abiodun described the achievement as a major turning point, noting that this is the first newly constructed airport in Nigeria to be certified under current regulatory standards. The approval followed a comprehensive technical inspection, audit, and on-site verification of the facility.
According to the NCAA, the airport has been assigned an Aerodrome Reference Code of 3C and an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) Category 6 rating, which confirms its readiness for safe passenger and cargo operations. Officials praised the airport as a model for modern aviation infrastructure in Nigeria.
Beyond air travel, the Gateway International Airport is expected to boost property values and real estate demand across Ogun State, particularly in Iperu, Sagamu, and Abeokuta. Businesses and investors will benefit from faster logistics, while residents gain easier access to domestic and international travel.
This milestone also supports the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda on infrastructure development, complementing projects like the Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation and Nigeria’s growing real estate appreciation trends.
With the NCAA permit secured, the airport is set to attract airlines, investors, and travelers, driving economic growth, tourism, and industrial expansion in the Southwest.
