The Osun State Government has rolled out Imole Wi-Fi, a free public internet service designed to connect residents, students, businesses, and communities across the state. The initiative, announced by the Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, marks a bold step toward expanding digital inclusion and bridging technology gaps in education, commerce, and governance.
Governor Ademola Adeleke described Imole Wi-Fi as more than just internet access, noting that it represents a gateway to opportunity. By providing public digital infrastructure, the government aims to break down barriers, empower people, and stimulate growth across key sectors of the state’s economy. According to the announcement, the first phase of the project covers major public locations, including the Osun State Library, Alphastart Hub, Osun Mall, Salvation Army Middle School, Osogbo Grammar School, and facilities within the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy.
Special Adviser Azeez Badmus emphasized that this is only the beginning of the state’s digital transformation agenda. He explained that the Wi-Fi rollout would expand into more locations, while future phases will integrate government services and digital tools tailored to specific sectors, ensuring every resident of Osun State benefits from the initiative.
The Imole Wi-Fi project reflects a wider trend of state-led digital inclusion strategies in Nigeria, echoing the call for technology-driven growth and investment opportunities. For the property and real estate sector, such initiatives provide a foundation for smarter cities, tech-enabled communities, and more connected neighborhoods — an area consistently explored by Property Media Week in its features on real estate and technology in Nigeria.
Digital infrastructure also has implications for property values and urban development. With increased internet access, schools, businesses, and residential communities are positioned to thrive, making Osun State an emerging hub for investment potential. Globally, projects like this align with best practices promoted by the International Telecommunication Union and regional partners working to close Africa’s digital divide.
The launch of Imole Wi-Fi is expected to reduce the digital access gap, improve learning outcomes, and create opportunities for innovation in commerce and governance. More importantly, it demonstrates Osun State’s commitment to building a future where connectivity is the foundation for prosperity, inclusivity, and sustainable growth.
