The Lagos state government Monday frowned at the nonchalant attitude of property owners in the state to apply for Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) on their property, saying obtaining C of O is a good way to secure their property.
This was stated by the special adviser to the state governor on Enterprise Geographic Information System e-GIS and regional planning, Olajide Babatunde, at a press briefing held at Alausa to mark the second year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He stated that in the last six years, only 246 C of O’s had been applied for, while there were 649 applications for regularisation of C of O’s.
He added that in the last six years, 4,690 surveys were applied for, saying that if people knew the importance of getting C of O, they will show more interest in getting it.
He added that getting the certificate is a better way to secure their property.
Speaking on the activities of an agency under his ministry, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), he noted that 8,663 building owners/ developers were detected of infractions in their property in the last one year.
