As part of efforts to cut costs and promote energy efficiency, Lagos State has announced that the state will commence the installation of 22,000 solar-powered streetlights on major highways in the first phase of a broader renewable energy initiative.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, during a press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja.
In his words, “Despite the enormous cost of maintaining diesel-powered streetlights, the government remains committed to keeping our streets illuminated. A permanent solution is now in motion—starting with solar technology. Implementation will begin shortly,”.
