For most people, tossing a can into a recycling bin is a momentary act. For Damian Gordon, it became a seven-year mission. The 36-year-old from the New South Wales Central Coast spent nearly a decade collecting discarded cans and bottles, turning them into a life-changing resource. His dedication paid off — literally — when he saved enough to place a down payment on a house.
Gordon estimated he earned $46,000 AUD, or just over €41,000, solely through container refunds. With this amount, he was able to successfully bid on a two-bedroom fishing shack during a property auction. “It just kind of piled up,” he said, explaining that the savings grew steadily in a bank account he didn’t regularly check.
This proves that with a well throughout plan, anyone can achieve home ownership.
