Multi-Storey Building Housing Restaurant Collapses in Ojodu-Berger

A tragic incident unfolded on the morning of Saturday, April 19, 2025, in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State, when a multi-storey building collapsed, leaving several individuals feared dead and many others trapped beneath the debris.

The building, located on Oremeta Street, was reportedly still under construction but had already begun operations, housing the popular Equal Rights Restaurant. Eyewitnesses reported that the structure caved in around 8:00 AM, causing panic among residents and passersby.

Emergency response teams, including officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other first responders, swiftly arrived at the scene. Rescue operations commenced immediately, with efforts focused on locating and extricating those trapped under the rubble. As of the latest reports, at least five individuals have been rescued and are receiving medical attention.

The exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, as rescue efforts continue. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse. Preliminary speculations suggest structural defects or potential violations of building codes, but official statements are awaited.

This incident adds to the growing concerns over building safety standards in Lagos, where several similar tragedies have occurred in recent years. Residents and advocacy groups are calling for stricter enforcement of construction regulations and more rigorous oversight to prevent future occurrences.Wikipedia
