Three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are currently receiving treatment after sustaining gunshot wounds during an operation in Abuja.
The incident occurred during a targeted raid in the Jahi district, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory. The officers came under heavy fire while attempting to apprehend suspects involved in a drug trafficking ring.
NDLEA spokespersons confirmed that the operatives were swiftly evacuated to a medical facility and are now in stable condition. Authorities also revealed that several suspects managed to escape during the exchange but investigations are ongoing to apprehend them.
This attack highlights the growing threat posed by drug cartels operating in urban areas, even in the capital. It also raises concerns about the safety of law enforcement officers on the frontlines of Nigeria’s war against drugs.
The agency has vowed to intensify its crackdown on drug networks and improve safety measures for its personnel.
