Taekwondo Coach Musa Ismail Dies as Rainstorm Collapses Sports Facility

A devastating rainstorm struck Ilorin, Kwara State, on Monday, April 21, 2025, leading to the tragic death of renowned Taekwondo coach and champion, Musa Ismail Adeyinka. The incident occurred between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM at the Badminton Court within the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA) complex.

According to eyewitnesses, Coach Musa was engaged in a training session with fellow athletes when the sudden downpour began. Seeking shelter, they moved to a section of the newly renovated facility. Tragically, a portion of the building collapsed during the storm, fatally injuring Musa. Twelve others present managed to escape with minor injuries.

The collapsed section was part of a recent renovation project undertaken by the previous administration. A staff member at the LNRBDA headquarters confirmed the incident but clarified that the deceased was not an employee of the Authority. Further details are expected following an official statement from the Managing Director.
