The Federal Government has approved the establishment of nine new private universities in Nigeria, a move set to strengthen education infrastructure and stimulate real estate growth in their host communities.
The announcement was made by Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
The newly approved universities are:
- Tazkiyah University, Kaduna State
- Leadership University, Abuja
- Jimoh Babalola University, Kwara State
- Bridget University, Mbaise, Imo State
- Greenland University, Jigawa State
- JEFAP University, Niger State
- Azione Verde University, Imo State
- Unique Open University, Lagos State
- American Open University, Ogun State
Dr. Alausa revealed that the Tinubu administration inherited 551 pending requests for tertiary institutions, which were reviewed under stricter approval guidelines to ensure quality and sustainability.
Impact on Real Estate and Local Economies
New private universities in Nigeria often act as catalysts for property development. Their presence increases demand for student housing, staff accommodation, and commercial infrastructure. Host communities often experience economic growth through job creation, retail expansion, and improved infrastructure.
Investors and developers should watch these nine locations closely, as each could become a real estate growth hotspot in the coming years.
