Dangote Lekki Refinery: Nigerians to Become Shareholders in $20B Project

In a move set to open up one of Africa’s largest industrial assets to the public, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has announced plans to list his $20 billion refinery in Lekki, Lagos State, allowing Nigerians to become shareholders.

Speaking at the Global Commodity Insights Conference on West African Refined Fuel Markets in Abuja, Dangote revealed that the refinery will soon be available for public investment while partnering with governments, private investors, and institutions.

“Very soon, the refinery will be listed to give all Nigerians the opportunity to become shareholders. Our vision is simple: Africa should refine all the petroleum products it consumes right here on the soil of Africa,” Dangote said.

For Nigeria’s real estate and infrastructure market, this announcement carries massive implications. The Lekki refinery has already spurred a surge in land value, commercial real estate, and housing demand within the Lekki Free Trade Zone corridor. With public listing, more Nigerians could gain a stake in a project that continues to shape Lagos’ urban expansion and industrial real estate growth.

Dangote also highlighted the refinery’s investment in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to promote clean cooking, which is expected to boost demand for modern residential developments designed with energy-efficient solutions.

At Property Media Week, we see this as more than an industrial story—it’s a glimpse into how mega-projects redefine urban landscapes, drive property value, and open new opportunities for investors.
