At the 19th Africa International Housing Show, Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa announced a national Rent-to-Own Scheme. It allows eligible Nigerians—especially urban workers and young families—to occupy homes while making monthly payments toward ownership.
Two Ways to Make Rent Easier
The Rent-to-Own plan works alongside a Rental Assistance Product. This option lets tenants pay their rent up front while repaying in flexible monthly installments. Both aim to ease financial pressure from rising rent and limited mortgage access.
Aligning With Global Housing Goals
Minister Dangiwa emphasized that these innovations tie into broader programs. These include Renewed Hope Cities, Estates, and Social Housing Estates, and the National Urban Renewal and Slum Upgrade Programme. These efforts support UN-Habitat’s agenda and the 2024 Africa Urban Forum’s Addis Declaration.
FMBN’s New Mortgage Products
Dangiwa also unveiled three new mortgage products under FMBN’s umbrella. While details remain limited, they complement existing affordable offerings like Home Improvement and Diaspora Loans. Together, they strengthen the Renewed Hope Housing Programme.
